Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security

PABSS  was established in 1999 when the Ticket to Work and Work Incentive Improvement Act (TWWIIA) was enacted into law. Under this Act, grants to the protection and advocacy programs provide advocacy and other services to assist beneficiaries of Social Security secure or regain gainful employment.

This program can only serve beneficiaries of the Social Security Act who have disabilities.

The purpose of this program is to make protection and advocacy services available to beneficiaries of the Social Security Act. To do this, the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration makes payments in each State to the protection and advocacy system established pursuant to part C of Title I of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (42 U.S.C. §15001).

The PABSS program can provide the following services:
   
  Information and advice about obtaining vocational rehabilitation and employment services; and

Advocacy or other services that a beneficiary with a disability may need to secure or regain gainful employment.
