Washington, DC – The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) announced today a formal partnership with the United States Census Bureau to guarantee a fair and accurate 2020 Census.
2020 Census national partners work with the U.S. Census Bureau to achieve its goal “to count every person once, only once, and in the right place.” National partners are non-profit, corporate or community organizations that encourage households to be counted in next year’s census.
“We are excited to formally partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure a fair and accurate 2020 Census and make sure that people with disabilities have the resources they need to get counted,” said NDRN Executive Director Curt Decker. “The Census Bureau considers people with disabilities as hard-to-count and it is vital that we all take the appropriate steps before Census Day to make sure that we can all be included in the official count.”
The census aims to count every person living in the U.S. as of April 1st, 2020. The population data collected will be used to allocate the seats in the House of Representatives, and to draw the appropriate boundaries for congressional districts, state legislative districts, school districts, and voting precincts. Next year’s census data will also be used to determine how more than $675 billion in federal government resources will be distributed every year over the next decade.
NDRN is also working alongside Census Counts, a diverse, nationwide coalition, to ensure that the census is fair and accurate for everyone living in the U.S. Civil rights groups like NDRN, National LGBTQ Task Force, health care providers, immigrant rights advocates, organizations that fight for children, and groups that represent the Black, Latino, Asian American and Pacific Island communities are all committed to ensuring that everyone is counted in the 2020 Census.
